Artist Statement

At the age of 16, I saw my very first black opal and I knew right then that I had to be involved in the creation of jewelry. To this day, I continue to be fascinated by opals and I have created many unique designs around the special characteristics of this magical gem. I love and work with an entire range of gemstones, specializing in high quality and unusual gems.

My jewelry designs are relatively simple. In every piece I attempt to enhance the beauty of the gem without overpowering the piece with too much design. There is beauty in simplicity and simplicity is so often the most challenging and complex aspect of the design.

My favorite quote is:

"A man who works with his hands is a laborer;
a man who works with his hands and his mind is a craftsman;
and,

a man who works with his hands, his mind and his heart is an artist."

I incorporate this concept into every piece of jewelry I create. I feel that a part of my heart, my soul and my spirit is captured in ever creation I make and sell.

I believe that everything in this world has energy and is 'alive'. Something that is stamped out by a machine has little energy and is a cold and relatively 'dead' object. But things made by artists are full of life and energy. As an artist, I am part of a tradition of bringing greater meaning to otherwise common everyday objects. In my own way, I use my art to help create a better life and a better world. The objects we own should be 'power objects', full of energy and life, rather than dull, lifeless, dead objects.

As a jewelry artist, I am proud and honored to be part of life's many celebrations: special occasions such as anniversaries, weddings and birthdays. I am delighted when I can help to enrich these special events.

I create and sell love, joy and happiness, manifested in works of my jewelry-art.
